What are the services like?
First, you can expect a warm welcome. You will also receive a copy of the service sheet; these are produced each week and contain all the information you will need for the service – so no fiddling about looking for the right page. And you can take your sheet home with you.
Every service includes prayer, praise, Bible reading and systematic Bible teaching.
At Denton Holme, any restless youngsters can take their parents into the welcome area at the back of the church, where they can get a drink, play with toys and, of course, use the loo. And, it has speakers to relay the service, so mum and dad won’t miss anything.
You will notice that we do not pass round any offering plates/bags; our regular members help to support church financially (either by bank order or in the offering plates at the back of church), but we do not expect visitors to contribute.
Sunday morning at Denton Holme is our main service of family worship and is a lively time of praise for all the family. The music is made up of worship songs, children’s songs and some traditional hymns, and is led by our superb Music Group. On some mornings there is a baptism as part of the service.
Children’s activities take place in the Parish Centre, where we all meet up afterwards for coffee and biscuits.
The sermon is given by John, Eddie or Wendy, or by one of our lay-readers or by a visiting speaker. Once a term, usually on special occasions such a Christmas, Easter and Harvest, we have an all-age service. Recent themes for our morning services have included Looking at an “Old Testament Postbag ” & “The likenesses and longings of the Christian family”.
Sunday evening at Denton Holme is similar, but perhaps a bit deeper. We often spend time sharing things to be thankful for and asking for prayer. There is no children’s programme in the evenings but there’s a meeting for 14+ afterwards and many of them come to the service.
Sunday morning at Cummersdale follows the same theme as morning worship in Denton Holme, but are more traditionally based.
Midweek services are traditonally based with different speakers each month.
