It is now more than a year since Lucy Goldie left Carlisle to join the Operation Mobilisation ship the Logos Hope for a year. In that year she has visited 11 different countries and 20 ports – more than most people would visit in a lifetime! The highlights for Lucy were the many Arab ports they visited before the recent troubles in the Middle East. She has met many interesting people, and seen some amazing wildlife during some of the voyages.
On the ship Lucy has headed up the Nursery School, teaching children of many nationalities. The parents of these children have various leadership roles on the ship, which they would be unable to fulfil if the children were not in school. While the Ship was in dry dock in Sri Lanka, Lucy joined an outreach team , and lived and worked with local people.
Yesterday Lucy should have returned to her job in a school in Carlise, but instead she was home on a flying visit home to tie up a few loose ends before returning to the ship in Penang, Malaysia for another year. It has been lovely to meet up with her and hear her testimony to God’s goodness and provision in many ways over the last year. Over the next few months Logos Hope will be visiting other ports in Malaysia, before sailing on to Singapore (where they will be for Christmas) and then the Philippines.
Lucy shares a cabin with a lovely lady from South Korea, who she feels very comfortable with. On return, Lucy is looking forward to there being one day when the ship is closed to the public. Until now, the ship has been open to the public seven days a week, and Lucy has found that quite intimidating. She loves the interaction with people in the various ports, but feels she is sometimes living in a goldfish bowl.
Please pray for Lucy as she returns to the Ship. Her family are very supportive, and keen to know what she has been up to. They are grateful for Skype and Facebook!
The Logos Hope is the latest O.M ship to be launched. It was bought in 2004 to continue the purpose of the Ships’ Ministry ‘to bring knowledge, help and hope to the people of the world’ and the vision ‘to impact the life of every visitor with the Gospel.’ Logos Hope was launched into ministry in February 2009, firstly visiting ports in Europe before heading for the Caribbean.
